Diagnosed from other species of the genus by the combination
of the following characters: gill rakers on the first
gill arch 15-19; branched pectoral-fin rays 15-17;
accessory premaxillary tooth patch extending posteriorly
nearly to the terminus of the gape; branched anal-fin
rays 46-54; posterior limit of the gape located under
orbit; fleshy flap along the anterior margin of the
posterior naris extending medial of the medial margin
of the naris by a distance equal to, or greater than,
the transverse dimension of the posterior naris; length
of the pectoral-fin spine 16.8-18% SL; lateral margin
of the pectoral spine rough; snout in lateral view
somewhat rounded; and dorsal view slightly trilobed.
Etymology: The genus name Eutropiichthys:
Greek, eutropheia = well fed + Greek, ichthys = fish.
The specific name britzi: Named for Ralf
Britz, who collected some of the specimens used for
the description of this species, and in recognition
of his many contributions to the knowledge of diverse
groups of fishes and to the fishes of Myanmar. Remarks:Eutropiichthys britzi is still listed
in Fishbase as being in the Schilbeidae family but
it is updated in Eshmeyer's Catalog of Fishes as the
current status of being in the Ailiidae family.
