Tatia caudosignata
is described from terra firme streams of the Colombian
Amazon. Colouration: The new species
(2019) is distinguished from congeners by its unique
colouration pattern consisting of dorsal region of
head and body cloaked in dark pigment, fading to pale
towards ventral region; dorsal fin almost completely
dark (excepting distal margin and last ray); narrow
white bilobed band along base of caudal fin; and posterior
margin of caudal fin with uniformly, darkly pigmented
interradial membranes. Aquarium Care:
Give them small pipes, as they do seem to like to
hide in the crevices of bogwood as well. They appear
to be happier if they can jam themselves in with the
use of their pectoral fins. Community tanks are fine
for this species although you may find that they will
predate on fry from other species. Diet:
Feeding of frozen bloodworm which they will come out
of hiding to feed on, catfish tablets, daphnia, white
worm (sparingly) and any other small worm-like foods.
Etymology: caudosignata:
caudo-, tail; signatus, marked, referring to the distinctive
colour pattern of the caudal fin, consisting of a
narrow, white, bilobed band along its base and the
uniformly darkly pigmented interradial membrane of
the distal portion of the fin. Remarks:
Not yet listed in Fishbase but referenced in Eshmeyer's
Catalog of Fishes.
