Habitat: Similar
looking to Tympanopleura sp. "Rondoni"
but this species hails from the other side of Brazilin the western state of Rondoni whereas our
specimens of sp. marajo come from the Island ofMarajo which is located on the western side
near the Atlantic ocean. It is located
in the Amazon River delta, eastern Pará estado
(state), Brazil. It is the world’s largest fluvial
island (i.e., one produced by sediments deposited
by a stream or river). It is not
too far from Belem the capital city of Pará
state. Aquarium Care: Although of
a smaller size to its close relative, Ageneiosus,
they could still prove to be predatory as per this
genera, so would need to be kept with fish that are
not too small. Diet: Presumably meat
based. Etymology. The genus name
meaning tympano-, tympanum; pleuro, side, referring
to prominent pseudotympanum consisting of an area
on side of body devoid of epaxial musculature where
gas bladder contacts internal coelomic wall.
