Information:
Brochis haraldshultziis sometimes confused withHoplisoma
sterbai.
The difference being that H.sterbai has for
simplistic reasons a dark basic body colour with white
spots on the head and snout area, while B.haraldshultzi
has it in reverse, a light body with dark spots/reticulations.
Another Corydoras confused with B. haraldshultzi
is Hoplisoma
araguaiaense,
but it has no orange colouration to the fins. Other
similar looking species areBrochis
spectabilis and Brochis
isbrueckeri.
Lineage: Placed in lineage 8 sub clade 4
which comprises the "intermediate long-snouts"
with deeper bodies. It also includes Brochis
in sub-clade 1 which was synonymised with Corydoras
by Britto in 2003 but in time there will be a revision
which will resurrect Brochis (Cope, 1871)
to full genera again.
As of the latest update Corydoras haraldschultzi
has now been placed in Lineage 8 sub clade 4 and has
the new genus name of Brochis (Dias 2024).
Aquarium Care:This
is akin to most of this genus, very peaceful, and
would be best housed with small to medium sized tankmates
such as Tetras, Rasboras and Danios or in a species
tank for breeding purposes. Best to purchase 6 individuals
or more as they will be happier in a group. Diet:
Readily accepts a mixed and varied diet which includes
granular foods, tablet food, frozen bloodworm and
a good quality flake. Etymology:
The specific name haraldschultzi: In honour
of Harald Schultz. Remarks:
Still found on some online sources
