Similar to Corydoras pastazensis which was considered a subspecies as Corydoras pastazensis orcesi Weitzman & Nijssen, 1970. It was raised to species level by Isbrücker in the publication, Breeding Corydoradine Catfishes, Ian A.M. Fuller 2001. The first thumbnail picture by Image Contributor, Hans-Georg Evers, is the paratype (remaining specimens after holotype has been selected), which is held in the Zoological Museum of Amsterdam. Lineage: Placed in Lineage 1. When there is a revision they will stay as Corydoras (Lacépède, 1803) with the type species of C. geoffroy La Cépède, 1803. As of the latest update (Dias et al 2024), Corydoras orcesi has been placed in Lineage 1 and has retained the genus name of Corydoras. Aquarium Care: As this is one of the longer snouted species it will be well suited to most community tanks. A well planted tank with a soft substrate such as sand so they can bury their snouts while searching out food. Diet: Readily accepts a mixed and varied diet which includes granular foods, tablet food, frozen bloodworm and a good quality flake.
