C053 has now finely been described
by Tencatt et al 2024. This species is quite similar
to Corydoras
cervinus.
Lineage: Placed in Lineage 1 the "saddle-nosed"
species and when there is a revision they will stay
as Corydoras (Lacépède, 1803)
with the type species of C. geoffroy La Cépède,
1803. As
of the latest update (Dias
et al 2024) Corydoras iiap
has been placed in Lineage 1 and has retained the
genus name of Corydoras. Aquarium
Care: As this is one of the longer snouted
species it will be well suited to most community tanks.
A well planted tank with a soft substrate such as
sand so they can bury their snouts while searching
out food. Diet: Readily accepts a
mixed and varied diet which includes granular foods,
tablet food, frozen bloodworm and a good quality flake.
Etymology: The specific epithet “iiap”
is a reference to the Instituto De Investigaciones
De La Amazonía Peruana (IIAP), in Loreto, Peru,
which has been the center for the study of the biodiversity
of the Peruvian Amazon for over four decades. In appreciation
for its invaluable work in conducting biodiversity
studies and contributing to the scientific basis for
conserving one of the most diverse places on the planet.
