Very similar to O.
zygata which has a
slimmer profile. The fry of each of these two has
proven that they are two seperate Corydoras/Osteogaster
species. (Fuller, 1980) This unique pattern in the
fry can be seen on the 5th and 6th thumbnail by image
contributor and breeder, Graham Ramsay. Lineage:
Placed in Lineage 7 alongside other members of the
so called "aenea/us group" with the designated
type species: C. eques. A revision in the
future would constitute the resurrection of the genus
name Osteogaster (Cope, 1871). As
of the latest update Corydoras rabauti has
now been placed in Lineage 7 and has the new genus
name of Osteogaster (Dias et al. 2024).
Aquarium Care: This is akin to most
of this genus, very peaceful, and would be best housed
with small to medium sized tankmates such as Tetras,
Rasboras and Danios or in a species tank for breeding
purposes. Best to purchase 6 individuals or more as
they will be happier in a group. Diet:
Readily accepts a mixed and varied diet which includes
granular foods, tablet food, frozen bloodworm and
a good quality flake. Etymology:
The specific name rabauti: Named in honour
of the American collector Auguste Rabaut. Remarks:
Still found on some online sources as Corydoras
