L312 is a rare import from
Colombia, where it's said to occur in the Rio Magdalena.
Colouration: Juveniles show a dim
pattern of black dots against a body colour that is
part light and part dark brown. Adults tend to turn
dark brown all over. Similar looking to the larger
species of L.
caucanus from
the Pacific rivers of Colombia. Sexual Differences:
Males have longer pectoral fins and have a heavier
growth of odontodes behind the gill covers and on
the edges of the snout. Aquarium Care:
Relatively easy to keep but large males may tend to
be territorial. Reproduction: Breeding
has proven to be quite achievable in captivity, and
happens in typical manner with males guarding the
clutch in a suitable cave. Diet:
Omnivore. Pretty similar to the Ancistrus
genera with a vegetable diet. Will also take tablets/wafers,
fine live and frozen foods.
