Habitat: Chiloglanis
congicus is known from Pool Malebo (Stanley Pool)
and the Wagenia falls (Stanley Falls). Additional
recent records from the Lower Congo have been confirmed.It is a benthopelagic species, adapted to
rapids. Colouration: Grey/brown with
lighter and indistinctly defined spots, above all
in front of and behind the adipose fin. The lower
head and belly are whitish. The caudal fin exibits
a vertical dark grey stripe (Seegers, L., 2008). Aquarium
Care: Good oxygenated water from a power
filter. Sand or gravel substrate with smooth rocks
or pebbles. Their dorsal and pectoral fins are sharp
and can cause wounds if not handled carefully. Reproduction:
It is oviparous has a distinct pairing during breeding
(Breder and Rosen 1966). Diet: Mouth
and dentition suggest that it is a bottom feeder and
algal grazer. In the aquarium feed algae, fly larvae
foods, bloodworm, and flake food. Etymology:
congicus - from the Congo. Remarks:
The species is widespread or without major threats
throughout the Central Africa assessment region and
is assessed as Least Concern (IUCN 2010. Needs updating).
