Habitat: Synodontis alberti is known from throughout the Congo River basin, with exception of the Mweru-Luapula-Bangweulu system. Aquarium Care: Quite a timid species so would need to be housed alongside non aggressive tank mates. The large eye and very long maxillary barbels gives a good identification guide to this species. Diet: Will eat most prepared foods and also likes a vegetable addition to the diet. Remarks: The species is widespread or without major threats throughout the Central Africa assessment region and is assessed as Least Concern (IUCN 2010). Etymology: Patronym not identified, presumably in honour of King Albert I of Belgium (1875-1934); described from the Congo, which was a Belgian colony at the time. |
