Could very well be a "hybrid"
from either Russia or the Czech Republic. The first
species may be slightly different from the others
due to the extended lobes of the caudal fin, but this
may be due to age. The eyes also on this species have
the copper colour that sometimes point to a "hybrid".
The other two species (in the last three thumbnails)
where sold as S.
pardaliswhich apparently they are not. The points to
look out for in a "hybrid" are the unevenness
of the spots on the body where some are more misshapen,
the hump on the head just posterior of the dorsal
fin is another factor. The two species concerned with
the hormonal treatment may very well be ocelifer/eupterus
although nigrita is another species worth
noting. Until more information is known we will treat
this as a "hybrid". The last thumbnail image
has the same markings and body shape but has a green
cast to the body.
Remarks:
We have decided to label each alleged 'hybrid' or
unknown Synodontis species with SC numbers
(ScotCat numbers) to identify each species exclusive
to the ScotCat website.
Synodontis
sp. (SC001) Close up of the pre-dorsal hump
Synodontis
sp. (SC001) Green body caste
