Etymology:
The genus name of Tachysurus: tachys, swift;
oura, tail, referring to the presumed agility of T.
sinensis based on its “long and nimble”
tail (translation). The specific name of tokiensis:
–ensis, suffix
denoting place: Tokyo, Japan, type locality. Remarks:
Still valid in some publications as Pseudobagrus
tokiensis but the Catalog
of Fishes has Tachysurus as the current status
and also uncertain as Tachysurus tonkinensis
(Nguyen 2005).
