Description:
Dorsal soft rays (total): 21; Anal soft rays: 15.
Distinguished by having the following combination
of characters: body narrow, elongated, sub-cylindrical,
small sized; dorsal fin soft with 21 unbranched rays;
anal fin soft with 15 unbranched rays; caudal fin
is not confluent with dorsal and anal fins, round
in shape and with 28 fin rays (including the procumbent
rays); pectoral fin round, highly vestigial and not
visible with naked eyes; and a pair of pseudo-tympanic
membranes on both lateral sides of the head base,
near to the pectoral fin. Habitat:
Collected from a well with pH 7.2, conductivity 180ìS
and dissolve oxygen 2mg/l and soft lateriate bottom
comprising of small pores and channels. Etymology:
The species name abdulkalami
named
for the former president of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul
Kalam, who ignited young minds towards the real world
of Science and Technology.
